Bemagtiging van vroue in die landbou

Dertig werklose vroue in die plaaswerkergemeenskap van Keimoes, in die Noord-kaap, het die afgelope jaar ‘n praktiese ondernemerskapkursus deurloop wat by hulle die hoop geskep het,  om op eie inisiatief, vir hulself, hul gesinne en hulle gemeenskappe ‘n beter toekoms te skep.   Dit is ‘n voorloper-projek wat Agri SA, met die finansiële ondersteuning van Agri SETA, aangebied het en op ‘n groter skaal landwyd wil uitrol as teenfoeter vir die armoede, werkloosheid en gevolglike sosiaal-maatskaplike probleme in landelike gebiede. Lees meer

Progress with the District Land Reform Committees

The National Development Plan identifies organised agriculture as critical stakeholders in the rural space with a central role assigned to it in the decentralised system of land reform suggested through the District Land Committees (DLCs). The Department of Rural Development and Land Reform (DRDLR) is currently in the process of establishing DLCs throughout the country on an incremental basis.

Agri SA has clear procedures and structures for mandating its policy views, comments on government policy and legislation and participation in consultative and implementation structures.  Agri SA’s mandated views are always communicated to government institutions in writing and are based on mandated positions adopted by its highest mandating structure, the Agri SA Congress. Read more

Jongboere

Jongboer kompetisie 2015

Die eerste jongboer finalis vir die Toyota SA/Agri SA 2015 Jongboer van die Jaar kompetisie is pas aangewys. Hy is Barend Grobler van die plaas Uitkyk in die Dewetsdorp distrik. Barend is aangewys as Vrystaat Landbou se Jongboer van die Jaar. Die nasionale wenner sal gedurende Oktober 2015 aangewys word. Dit is vanjaar die elfde jaar dat Toyota SA by die kompetisie betrokke is as die hoofborg daarvan.

A draft insurance bill – good news for the agricultural sector

The National Treasury (NT) and the Financial Services Boards (FSB) published for public comments, the draft Insurance Bill as approved by the Cabinet. The Bill seeks to replace and consolidate substantial parts of the Long-term Insurance Act, 1998 and the Short-term Insurance Act, 1998.

Meeting of the Animal Health Forum

Agri SA as a member of the Animal Health Forum (NAHF) attended the meeting on 14 May 2015. It is clear that the Animal Health Forum (NAHF) as representatives of all the animal production organisations and relevant organisations, in the animal health industry, is on an ongoing basis, playing on a very important function for the sector. A rather comprehensive agenda was dealt with, ranging from the liaising with the Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (DAFF) and matters of mutual interest.Read more

Overview of climatic conditions in the provinces and weather outlook for 2015

• Conditions in the provinces during march 2015
Eastern Cape

Rainfall received was above normal but near normal in the east. However, parts of Joe Gqabi and Sarah Baartman Districts were very dry. The province reported fair to good crop conditions, but very good in Nelson Mandela Metropolitan and Sundays River Valley municipalities. Read more
